Kolache.
These are slightly sweet pastries, originating from the former Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic and Slovakia).
Kolache (literal translation is ‘cookie’) dates back to the 18th century.
The pastry incorporates yeast, eggs, lemon juice, and evaporated milk.
I usually make 2 batches using the same pastry, some sweet where chopped apples are encased, and some savoury where a piece of brie is wrapped.
